“The Pills Owned Me”- Matt

Matt started experimenting with drugs in college, and until he came to New Destiny, he never stopped partying. Not when he became an electrician. Not when he had a son. He thought he could continue to live that life forever. He thought he had control over it.

But then, Matt had a medical procedure and was given Vicodin.

“Those pills made me feel like I was 20 years old again and I was instantly hooked.”

When his prescription ran our he started buying opioids on the streets.

“No one knew about my addiction, I hid it from everyone,” Matt says. “I hated the lies and the double life I was living. I tried to get off the pain pills on my own but all my attempts at giving up my addiction failed.

“The pills owned me, and my personal life was falling apart.”

Matt heard about New Destiny from a coworker. Knowing he could never escape addiction on his own, he decided to call.

“I was entirely ready to give up and get clean,” he says. “I finally had to quit the lies and confess to my girlfriend what I had been doing. . . I had prayed to God and asked for help as I started this detox and recovery journey and God stepped in, answered my prayers and helped in miraculous ways.

“I believed in God before, but now I had a personal experience and I saw His grace and mercy for myself.”

Matt is now sober, walking with Jesus and setting an honest example for his son. He has healthy, solid relationships, is physically healthier and spiritually and emotionally he’s a whole new person.

“Now I can tell people about my past without shame and maybe my story will help others have hope.”

Your gift today can help someone else find lasting freedom from addiction!
